2005 May 23 The Senate is back in business: So says Sen. Lindsey Graham in what was the most emotional and heartfelt of the mini speeches at the press conference tonight on the filibuster and judicial nominations. For the most part the "make nice"speeches were stomach-turning in their fawning over Sen. Byrd and the declarations of "trust" in the future. Who believes that there will, in the foreseeable future, be any trust among the absurdly partisan Senate? I don't have any strong preferences in judicial nominations, but I don't like the direction I have seen the judiciary going over the past decade either. In any case, however, nominees should be give the respect of a vote, not years of filibustering and politicking. Hurray for the Senate compromise if that is what it takes to get this county back to the business of winning a war and preserving the future for all of us.

2005 May 22 Hot Properties: Well, I can hardly wait for the fall season on ABC. One of the scheduled new shows promises to being plenty of controversy. I don't know how controversial the probram itself will be, though I have seen it described as "Desperate Realtors". What I can't wait to see is the reaction of NAr and the real estate community as they/we tke umbrage at "stereotypes", but who doesn't know that the industry is rife with negative stereotypes? This ought to be fun for as long as it lasts, though I strongly doubt that the good guys, and there ARE plenty of good guys in real estate too, will have a very strong, if any, presence.
The Quads are now 5 1/2 weeks old and we finally have photos:
Blood donations are still needed as all four babies and their Mom, Liz, have already required transfusions and more are likely. See the updates for the current conditon of mother and babies.

2005 May 8 Springtime: I don't know what happened to April but somehow it has turned into May and Mother's Day. Both of my offspring remembered and sent lovely flowers. Since I have been missing my garden the past couple of weeks it is especially nice to have the bright colors of spring brought inside. It is even more lovely to have two wonderful children, not to mention the world's best grandsons.
Dixon Quads update. All four babes are doing surprisingly well. Their mom, Liz, is still in ICU but expected to be released from ICU by Monday. She is still quite ill, so we don't know when she might be able to go home. I still do not have pictures of the quads to share, but since my own illness is subsiding I hope to get over to the hospital to see them in person. Liz had an especially good day last week and got to visit the babies in the NICU, being permitted to be the first to hold Hudson, the most fragile of the babies. That was the best medicine in the world for Liz.
I have another niece to brag on this week. Meredith, designer of the Quads website, is actually a professinal web designer. Last year she graduated from SMU's Timerlane School of Advertising and her sememster project was The World Citizens Guide, a very useful resource for world travelers. This week the site won a Webby in the Activism category! As a 1998 nominees (the first year of the Webby) for the Financial Category we especially recognize the importance and prestige of this award. Congratualtions, Meredith.
