IRED Top Ten Web Sites

IRED's Top 10 Hot Picks for February, 1997

In Alphabetical Order

Air Sho, Detroit, MIExcellent
http://www.airsho.com/
This is not your usual real estate site. An aerial view of the region around Detroit demonstrates a new perspective on how the Web can, and should, be used to market a community.

The Buyers Broker, Nick Rioux, Shrewsbury, MABuyer BrokerExcellent
This is undoubtedly the best exclusive buyer's broker's web site yet. Plenty of information, choices, education, tips and profiles, without the pernicious piety we have come to expect from most exclusive buyer's brokers. If you want service without the sermon this is a good place to start.

CENTURY 21, Rolling Oaks, Ventura County, CAResidential Excellent
For the "bells and whistles" crowd this is one of the better virtual tour sites because it offers options, and does not limit its viewers to those with all the peripherals and plug-ins most require. Add good design and community information and you have another winner.

CyberHomesResidentialExcellent
Gone, but not forgotten
Moore Data systems presents MLS data from more than 28 cities, with more coming online all the time. Cyberhomes is one of the most comprehensive and useful listings databases online. It isn't quite the fabled national public access MLS, but it's the closest thing we have yet. Uses GeoSystems Global Corp. mapping.

D.W. Georgeson & Sons, Caithness, ScotlandResidentialCommercialExcellent
http://www.georgesons.co.uk/
Attention to detail makes this solicitor's site stand out. A summary of legal information for buyers is clear, concise, and easy to understand. Each and every listing is showcased, with outstanding narrative that provides a virtual walkthru, without bogging the site down with heavy graphics. Excellent use of frames.

Ed Stropus, Brampton Real Estate, Ontario, Canada Residential CommercialExcellent
http://www.edsellshomes.com/
Forget the hype. This is one site that actually lives up to its claim! Buyers will find a wealth of on-site information as well as links to area specific info. There is even an on-line Buyer's Seminar that covers just about everything you'd want ot know about buying property in Canada. Covers the cities of of Brampton, Mississauga, and, Greater Toronto Areas -with add'l search link to Toronto MLS. An outstanding site.

DFW Relocation, The Nunns, RE/MAX, DFW, TXResidentialBuyer BrokerExcellent
http://www.dfwrelocation.com/
When you want information about Dallas-Fort Worth living, from navigating three area codes, two regional multiple listing services, 43 school districts, 69 Metroplex cities, to the inside scoop on Texas' unique and controversial Homestead Act, it doesn't get much better than this. If, however, you're trying to find out about Barbara and Charlie you'll need to dig, and if you wonder which part of this Metropolitan maze they know best, you won't find out from their web site.

REsource, Courant Classifieds, CTResidentialExcellent
Go directly to Community Profiles! Do not pass Go, do not collect $200. Dynamite descriptions of communities, by professional journalists, will make you forget the so-so classified property search and the portions of this site that are still "under construction." We just couldn't wait to spread the word about REsource. The only question we have is why can't every community provide this kind of narrative self portrait?

Global Property Link, AustraliaResidentialCommercialExcellent
http://www.gpl.com.au/
Outstanding info for foreign investors and other buyers of Australian property

BONUS: Web Tool of the Month

Web Pages that Suck!Excellent
http://www.webpagesthatsuck.com/
Think you have a hot site? Blinking, animation, frames, crawling text, fade in backgrounds, JavaScript, grotesque colors, unreadable text, overdone, overlarge graphics and almost every other web site sin of commission is here. (We have our own list of sins of omission, but we'll save that for another day.) Learn from the mistakes of others, and enjoy Vincent's entertaining commentary as you see real pages demonstrating the worst of the web, so you can create the Best of the web..
