Editorial Guidelines For Writers
IRED's global web site is a widely known storehouse of information that has won dozens of awards and was nominated for the prestigious 'Webby Award' in 1998.
Our goal is to deliver high quality real estate information to our readers that will educate and assist them with their home buying and selling experiences (and career advancement for the readers who are real estate professionals
While many web sites provide information on some aspect of buying and selling homes and advice to real estate career professionals, none offers as many resources in one location (over 2,000 pages with extensive directories and articles).
Submission Guidelines
Contributors will not be paid for articles but retain reprint rights in hard copy form and are permitted to include links to their web sites and e-mail addresses in their articles that appear in IRED.
We prefer that the completed article be submitted in ASCII format, although MSWORD documents are acceptable. Please do not submit files in HTML format.
A brief biography should accompany the article including author's name, title, company (or organization) name and address.Include a list of recent articles you have published. (Prior publication is not a requirement for submission)
We will also consider reprinting previously published articles (including those published electronically) as long as the author holds the copyright.Disclosure of previously published articles should be made at the time of the submission.Simultaneous submissions are accepted as long as we are informed from the beginning. If another publisher accepts before we do, let us know as soon as possible.
All submissions are subject to editing (grammar, organization, style and consistency) and approval -- without altering meaning or intent -- by the editorial staff as necessary.
Style
Writing for electronic publication is different than writing for print.Short, snappy prose and bulleted lists of items are much more likely to be read on-screen than lengthy articles with long paragraphs.
Use active sentences - generally no more than 4 sentences per paragraph.Provide links, suggested reading, and sidebars as appropriate.Use a lively, informative style.
The dynamic nature of the electronic pages of a web site and the effect of hypertext links can create confusion for readers. The content of articles submitted for publication should build reader trust and interest.Add explanatory text to any links you provide to other sites so those users know what to expect when they click on the links.
Topics
For Consumers:
We do not accept product or service-oriented pieces and try to be as non-commercial as possible.Concentration should be on application or technology and not on certain brand names or companies.Promotions and advertorials that will be mistaken for true, independently produced editorial content are not allowed.
