New Zealand: More attractive than ever

© 2005, IRED.Com, Inc., Simeon Mitropolitski

Some years ago an American decided to move to New Zealand. He was so fascinated by this country that he decided to advise as many as possible friends back in the United States to move in the same direction too. Soon after he realized that the more Americans came to New Zealand, the less attractive it would become for him to live there. So he stopped the ad campaign. Not fearing to be overcrowded by newcomers we have only one thing to say as a general statement about New Zealand: it's a wonderful and very quiet country and if you happen to have some business reasons to go there don't miss the chance and apply for immigration procedures.

New Zealand is a rather small and scarcely populated country not far away from Australia. Until very recently it was associated primarily with agricultural exports. After experiencing some economic problems in the past its people have decided to use assets other than its lush pastures. New Zealand has embarked on the road of high technology development. Doing so it has become attractive for many computer engineers and other specialists from many countries including the Untied States. Doing business between IT sectors in California and New Zealand has become an everyday activity.

Good economic conditions and growing number of newcomers has driven up the local real estate market. The sheer price numbers don't show the real appreciation of the market given the additional strong appreciation of the local currency toward the US dollar. Taken together, these two factors show that the residential prices have gone up by 290% between 2001 and 2005. Right now the market shows signs of pause but given the price levels of California where some of the newcomers are coming from, it won't be surprising to see many more strong years ahead.

Talking about legal immigration to New Zealand, the good proficiency of English is a certain help, but in no way a must in order to get permission to settle in the country. Going to the myriad of related sites will give you some basic information about the immigration program points and how they are calculated. Basically, having higher education, a family with children, around 10 years of professional experience and age of 30-35 will be sufficient even if your English is far from excellent. Good recommendations from relatives in New Zealand or a promised job included in your application can make the immigration process even smoother.
