Simeon Mitropolitski is a Canadian analyst, of Bulgarian origin, and a former syndicated columnist with the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA). He is the author of several hundred articles dealing with hot political and economic topics, both national and international.

He was part of the first group of Bulgarian intellectuals and students that began the opposition movement that finally put an end to the communist regime in this country in 1989, and in 1996-1997 participated in international observation teams during the elections in several Balkan countries - Romania, Albania and Bulgaria.

In 2002 Simeon and his family moved from Bulgaria to Canada where they live now in Montreal, province of Quebec. Simeon is a Master of Political Science from McGill University and a B.A. of Political Science and History.

Mr. Osama,

We don't know each other in person so excuse my unsolicited letter and the fact that I'm using the Net as a way of communication. Just think of me as one of the 6 billion or so human beings that inhabit this planet. I understand that you have more than one reason to hide your real location and mailing address, which doesn't allow me to write you an ordinary mail or to call you by phone. I'm sure that you still use the Web as a way of knowing what is going on in the world so by just choosing your name in the search engines you will be pleased to know that there still are people wanting to say something to you.

Mr. Osama,

One year ago you did something that later you were so proud of. You killed thousands of people whose only crime was to live in a country you hate so much. By ordering this mass killing your primary goal was to get rid of American military personnel in your native country Saudi Arabia. There were other goals too to bring down the governments in the Middle East that support close ties with the West and to install in their places regimes that you'll be proud to call the true countries of Islam as you did earlier after settling in Afghanistan. Your ultimate goal, never declared but always in your mind, was to turn the whole world that becomes more and more interdependent and tolerant for different cultures into a jungle where you and people like you will be the main predators.

Let's make a brief resume of what you got since last September. These are only facts. The American military personnel are still in Saudi Arabia. Afghanistan got rid of your dear friends the Talibans. Please take a special notice to the fact that the women in this country are becoming teachers and medical doctors. The girls are going to school and are showing their faces, beautiful child faces.

Before your acts there were many Muslims in the world that believed there were more options left between the radical Islam and the westernization. You left one billion Muslims with no middle option with you or against you, and most Muslims didn't follow you when the American-led coalition entered Afghanistan.

Mr. Osama,

For one or another reason you hate the United States. For one or another reason you believed, and maybe you still believe, that by destroying the material bases of one country you destroy the whole civilization. By one reason or another you believed, and maybe you still believe, that the United States are very young country and as such the first blow on their society could be the last one.

There are no eternal states and societies and as a history loving human being I'm far from pretending that the United States will be the first eternal society on the earth. But if you want to destroy this country you have to do much more than simply killing thousands of people. I'm afraid but even killing millions won't do the job. Even by turning America into a radioactive desert won't destroy it. Why you should ask?

America isn't eternal but its roots aren't here, they are entrenched in people's souls and minds all around the world. Look at the eyes of your bodyguards and you ll see their American dreams to live in peace, to see their children growing, to see the beautiful sunsets, to feel free from your oppression and finally start normal lives.

If you want really to destroy America you have to destroy America in every one of us who want a better life with the God and under the sun. We are billions so you have to destroy all of us or make us forget about our dreams, to forget about our lives, to forget about our children and to stop living as human beings.

Mr. Osama,

It is an irony that you can read this letter only because the Pentagon, the same people you wanted to destroy, had the idea of creating the Net as a way of communication more than 30 years ago? Your cellular phones, when you used them, also were invented somewhere in the West. Look how many ideas and so much more were made possible where people feel free from your command and control.

There are some options you still can make. The first is to surrender and to face the justice. If you're lucky enough you may surrender to forces whose countries don't allow the death penalty. You could be a good companion to play chess with Mr. Milosevic. You can still choose to continue ordering mass killings but this won't serve your cause and won't destroy America because it's within all of us.
